Look Who's Talking (and Wiggling)

Thomas was saying "Dada" about a month ago, but then mastered that, and went on to other sounds. A few days ago we were pleased when he decided to reintroduce "Dada" into his babble repertoire.

He spends the whole day saying "Dada," but of course when I try to capture it on film, he does not cooperate. I did manage to catch him saying it one time in the video below. You will also note his new dance moves, and how we're still working on our balance. Disregard my cackle at the end.

Won't you be my Neighbor?

Last Friday we went out to lunch with our soon-to-be neighbors. Thomas was in awe of M., a whole 6 months older, and is very excited to have a new friend on the street!

Welcome to the neighborhood, M.!

LOST

I meant to post these Mother's Day photos last week, but then got sidetracked with the case of the missing breastpump. So, let's flash back in time to my very first Mother's Day, where the whole family was trapped inside my mother's house while about 20" of rain fell outside. . .my sister and I began to feel like we were trapped on an island and it became the running joke of the day.

"Hey, look what I found down in the Hatch."

Mom prepares a salad with some greens she foraged from the jungle. Salad spinner found at the Pearl Station.

Nana tries to escape, but the island won't let her leave.

P. contemplates joining the "Others."

Waiting for the helicopter to rescue us.

Final Exercises

Last Saturday we went to good ol' Cville to cheer on Aunt H as she was "hooded" for her PhD. The weekend started off the way any trip to Cville should, with a sandwich from Bel Air and and a trip to the Rotunda.

As you can see, Thomas is too cool for school in his linen sport coat.

To add to the excitement, Thomas met his cousin, C.
He also wanted to know why Aunt H was dressed in such a crazy outfit.

We rounded out the weekend with a stay at our favorite "B&B."
Thomas enjoyed the Sunday morning offerings (oatmeal and fresh banana) and the lively breakfast conversation with his fellow guests.

Happy Birthday, Alex, Carole and Katie!

Lots of birthday shout-outs today. Thomas is fast asleep, but he wanted me to pass on the following special birthday messages:

Alex: "I can't believe my mommy used to change your diapers, too."

Carole: "I will have to come by RLO soon to catch up."

Katie: "See you at the Hotel Del in a few weeks!"

As you can see, he went from being approx. 6 dots long, to "off the blanket."

Pump-n-Steal

So it's been pouring rain here, and this morning when I got to work, I opted to leave the breastpump in the car until later, because I had too many bags plus an umbrella to carry. You can imagine my shock when I went to retrieve the pump later in the afternoon, only to find that the car had been broken into, and the breastpump was stolen!

Fortunately, I retrieved my Medela Pump -n- Style about 50 yards down the street, where it was stashed under a tree. Actually, my colleague who was with me spotted the pump. I am thinking about writing the manufacturer of the pump and letting them know that maybe they shouldn't make the bag so non-descript.

Message to the thief: "Thought you were scoring a laptop, but all you got was a lousy breastpump."

One Helluva Toy

Thomas has a favorite toy, and for those of you who know me well, I assure you, there has been no brainwashing from Mommy. He truly loves this toy--so much so, that it is beginning to fall apart and fray!

Of course, I would have no objections if he continued to favor all things UVa right up until the fall of 2026.

Thanks Aunt P for getting us this wonderful toy!

Exploring Options

Below please find a riveting video clip featuring Thomas as he practices sitting up, then rolls over and eventually ends up on his stomach.

Don't Disturb the Master

Thomas working on his next blog post.

As I've mentioned before, he's very advanced.

Hangin' With the G'rents

My mom took a vacation last week (the nerve!) so G's parents spent
some quality time with Thomas while I was at work.

Feeding. . .

and playing. . .

and more feeding. . .

After three days of non-stop attention,
Thomas wasn't too pleased with the return of the status quo
upon the grandparents' departure.

Happy One Week Birthday, Baby C!

Special birthday message from Thomas:
"I can't wait to teach you how to bust out of your Swaddle Me."
