I Want to be Like You

Thomas just can't wait to grow up. He loves to "stand up," so I've moved him to the exersaucer. I think his beloved play mat is on the way out. . .

He has also taken a keen interest in
watching me eat my morning oatmeal.
So, this morning we tried out a spoon
dipped in formula. . .

He was an expert at first bite. I think he's ready for cereal!

Good Morning, My Baby!

I'm still not a morning person, despite having Thomas. However, nothing beats the big smile I am greeted with every morning when I go to get Thomas out of his crib. I know as soon as I peer over that crib railing, he will see me and grin ear to ear. It is the best! Then I flash forward to the teenage years, when he will most likely NOT greet me with a grin in the morning, and I make an extra effort to preserve in my mind the image of the happy baby in the crib.

School Days

Even though Thomas will not start preschool for another three years, I just sent in an application and deposit to get him on the waiting list at a nearby nursery school. Ridiculous, but apparently necessary. . .

Bathtime

I don't think there is anything Thomas enjoys more than his nightly bath (well, except kisses from Mommy, of course).

Pinkberry

I hope one day we will get a Pinkberry in our city. Until then, Thomas enjoys listening to the jingle on the website. P-I-N-K-B-E-R-R-Y Pinkberry. . .

New Toys

Thomas had tea yesterday morning with our neighbor, P., and she gave him a very cute little spider toy, which he loved, and played with immediately upon returning home. Later in the day, I presented him with his new stroller (courtesy of Renee and Pop Pop).

All the excitement exhausted him to the point that he could not even make it up to his crib for his afternoon nap! He fell asleep while playing.

Dexterity

I am pleased to report that Thomas has inherited the Moore family trait of retrieving items with one's feet if the hands are not available (or able to reach, in T's case).

President's Day

I knew something was up today when I saw my neighbor exit her house in full colonial period garb. Then I remembered it was President's Day, and realized there was probably a parade going on. Thomas called "Aunt" Krista to see if she wanted to check it out.

We made it down to the parade only to find these lovely creatures marching along. . .

I'm still trying to figure out the relevance of alpaca/llama in the President's Day Parade. Anyway, Thomas didn't really care.

One final notable image from the parade (and this is only for my sister's enjoyment).

Weekend Update

Just a typical Sunday morning. . .

. . .Saturday included a walk to the market with cousin Piper

The Outakes

A few shots from Thomas' Valentine photo shoot.

My father noted that the candy dish is empty. Good point.
Maybe that's why Thomas seems so disinterested.

Happy Birthday, Tiffany!

Special birthday message from Thomas: If you leave now, you can make it up here in time for an early dinner at Mei Wah.

Ballin'

Thomas attended his first basketball game on Tuesday, a match-up between the Lake Braddock Bruins and the Titans of T.C. Williams. He insisted on waiting for the players to exit the locker room post-game, so he could get his photo taken with the Bruins' leading scorer.

Somethin' to Talk About

Thomas and Aba opine on the potential outcome of the "Potomac Primary."

Thomas: Who are you going to vote for tomorrow?
Aba: I can't tell you, that's a personal question.

Diaper Genie

Uncle David and Aunt Haley came to visit on Friday, hoping to get some baby care training. All was going well until Haley attempted a diaper change, and managed to put the wet diaper back on Thomas and walk away with the clean one! Thomas thought it was pretty funny.

Thomas knew Haley was a quick learner, however, and the next morning allowed her to (successfully) feed him his mid-morning snack.

I should also mention that Uncle David changed a very messy diaper with great agility and speed. Thomas did not find it necessary to post that photo.

How Sweet it is

Thomas experienced his first photo shoot a few weeks ago. These photos were taken by Jen Fariello, an amazing photographer who also photographed our wedding. She emailed these images to me this afternoon. For more of her work, visit her website at www.jenfariello.com.

We're Off to See the Wizard

Only select members of my family will find this post amusing. The rest of you will think it's plain weird (as you should).

Clearly, Thomas isn't phased by the Wicked Witch of the West melting just off to his right.

Guys Night In

Last night I went out to celebrate Fat Tuesday, while Thomas and Daddy spent some quality time together at home. Thomas was such a good boy while Mom was away, he was crowned King, and allowed to drink his own baby version of milk punch.
Special note to all child safety advocates of the world: beads were promptly removed once photo was taken.

Sleeping Through the Night. . .and the Day

I think Thomas is going through a growth spurt. He slept eight straight hours last night, and is now taking the longest morning nap on record. Of course, I blame every change of behavior on a growth spurt, and if all my growth spurt proclamations were accurate, he'd probably be the size of a 12 year-old boy by now. But, I might be on to something this time, he has almost outgrown his bassinet!

Conference Call

Thomas listens carefully as
Aunt Jennie regales him with
tales from her day.

As you can see, he is a very concerned listener.

And since we're on the topic, I'd like to take this opportunity
to comment on the "aunt" phenomenon. My mother recently
asked me why "you kids these days" are calling all of your
girlfriends "aunts" when clearly they are not related to you.
I suppose it's just a term of endearment--it's not necessarily
used to describe every girlfriend--in my opinion, it's reserved
for any girlfriend who convincingly reassures you that you still
look cute despite a 50 pound pregnancy weight gain,
brings you dinner four out of seven nights during the week
post baby, and/or continuously offers to watch the baby, so you
can get out and have some time to yourself. . .

The Lesser of Two Evils

Thomas can't decide which is more fun, tummy time or scheduled vaccinations.

Let's Get This Party Started

Thomas and I had a lengthy discussion this morning, during which Thomas expressed his dismay that he did not have a blog like all of his contemporaries. So, nearly three months into his existence, here we are. Stay tuned. . .
